Topography is an ongoing body of work in which Pascal Smelik investigates the inner landscape of emotion, perception and self-observation.
Through layered transparent surfaces, hand-painted circular structures and subtle shifts in colour, the works translate emotional states into spatial compositions. Each ring, interruption and overlap becomes part of a visual system: a map of movement, tension, resonance and transformation.
Within this series, Emovere focuses on the movement of emotion itself. The works are built from simplified wave-like structures, suggesting how feelings arise, expand, collide and dissolve over time. Rather than depicting emotion directly, they approach it as a rhythm, something that moves through the body before it can be fully understood.
The study works form the foundation of this research. They allow for a more direct and intuitive exploration of colour, layering, composition and depth. These studies are not preliminary in a traditional sense, but active fields of investigation: places where new visual languages are tested, refined and allowed to emerge.
Together, the Emovere works and the studies reveal Topography as a growing archive of inner movement , a quiet attempt to make visible what is usually felt before it is seen.
